Frequently Asked Questions

How long will I need to stay in treatment?

The length of treatment fluctuates based on amount of training each week. Because of the limited weekly time customary for outpatient therapy, the time period that you will need to stay in therapy will extend past the average. In order to learn all of the skills in DBT/RO-DBT, therapy will be needed once per week for at least a year.

What should I expect my first Session?

Prior to the appointment you will be sent a link to register for the patient portal via email. We request that all the electronic paperwork is completed prior to the session. The focus can then be on gathering relevant history, deciding treatment method, discussing the need for any other providers, and developing the goals for therapy.

What are the fees and do you take insurance?

Peri Counseling accepts private pay, BCBS, MedCost, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, and United Healthcare. Please keep in mind that whenever an insurance claim is filed, a diagnosis has to be given and becomes part of your permanent insurance record. Some clients may want to retain more privacy and choose not to file insurance. We accept checks, cash, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. If your insurance is not listed above and you would like to file, I can provide you with a “superbill” that will allow you to file an out-of-network claim and possibly receive some reimbursement. Please schedule a consultation to further discuss treatment costs.

How can I contact my therapist?

Peri Counseling offers a secure messaging feature through the patient portal. Any messages sent to the therapist will be answered within 24 hours. You can also schedule an online chat session between appointments. Texting is available, but we prefer to use the secure messaging feature.

What equipment do I need in order to participate in technology assisted therapy?

If online counseling works the best for you, you will need internet access, a computer with a webcam, and headphones. You do not have to own the computer as long as you have access to privacy. Please note that Peri Counseling currently only provides online services to residents of North Carolina.
